If you are considering economizing on a piano because a child is just starting to take lessons, consider that playing music on a quality instrument is one of the best ways to keep a child engaged. When buying a used piano, make sure the piano has been tuned and serviced by a technician before you buy the instrument. Also consider that often times, the cabinet condition does not reflect the condition of the interior of the piano: the moving piano parts.

When deciding on a used piano consider the age of the instrument. If cared for properly, a piano can last almost a lifetime. But, when a piano reaches 80 or 90 years of age, they always need a great deal of work. The cost of fixing an old piano will most often exceed the price of a new model.

Similar to cars, trucks, and other autos, pianos require routine service to maintain its quality and sound. We recommend tuning your piano at least twice a year for light to normal use. If you move your piano or have extreme humidity changes where your piano is located, you may need to tune it more often. Using an air conditioner in summer months and a humidifier in dry winter months will reduce extreme high and low humidity levels, thus improving the tuning stability of your instrument.
